The new fuel pump installed. It was a bit of a pain to get at without a socket set. The white line is to help get the outflow hole lined up to allow the fuel out; the first time I did it without the line and spent and few minutes wondering why no fuel was appearing.

Bit of a rainy day, so the car was left in the garage to fit the fuel pump. I chose a solid state fuel pump for reliability.

This is the battery we took out of the MG - no idea if it's the original or not. We needed to get a replacement with as near as possible dimensions to this one as the battery bin is cramped at the best of times. UniPart luckily had a battery identical to this.

A bit of an indulgence, but I needed a workshop mate and this'll be sitting on the car quite a lot, so why not have the MG logo on it? Ordered from the MGOC, this does a great job of protecting the wing and unlike the towel I was using doesn't keep slipping off. It could do with some weights sewing into the bottom of it as occasionally the wind does shift it.

Spent most of today cleaning out the area behind the pedal box. This looks like it's where the mice had their nest, bless 'em.

The accelerator cable has sheared right through. After a bit of investigation, it looks like the guide which took it through the bodywork had totally rusted away, allowing the cable to rub on the metal until it snapped.

I found this touch-up pen in the armrest console. Not wanting to risk uncertain age paint on the car I ordered an aerosol and new touch-up pot from MGOC Spares.

Found a few dozen of these under the front carpets. Don't know what they are, but hopefully getting rid of the underlay will have fixed it.

The interior is in pretty good nick. I really like the chrome boot hinges and rear side-window levers. It's touches like these which make this car stand out from modern interiors. You do have to watch your fingers when dropping the boot though as once the springs in the hinges let go the whole weight of the hatchback drops suddenly - best to hold onto the outside handle as you close it.

As this is a later model MG it has just the one battery bin under the rear seat - you can see the black cover here. It is a really tight fit so getting the battery in and out can be a pain, especially as the positive lead is really short. With the metal seat base in close proximity you have to be careful when tightening the connector - it's given me a shock once already.

The floor looks to be in good shape, apart from this bit under the pedals. It looks like rust has eaten through part of the floor, but it doesn't look fresh. I'll treat it and keep an eye on it.

This was the main nest with a Dyson full of dust and debris, mixed bones at least one mouse skull and a couple of handfuls of larger shredded black bags. The blue cable is the accelerator going through the bodywork into the cabin
A while back I inherited a 1979 MGB GT. It had been sat in a garage for nearly two decades and was in desperate need of a bit of attention. Knowing absolutely nothing about cars and even less about engines I, of course, decided to get it back on the road.
