Back when Top Gear looked at more than supercars, Quentin Wilson gives a buyer's guide to the B.
This is a five-part upload to YouTube of a TV show. In this episode they buy, restore and sell on an MGB GT. They only cover bodywork stuff, but they do seat recovering, rust treatment and prep work for a full respray and have a quick visit to the club headquarters.
John Twist explains how the rear brakes work on MGBs.
How to strip and clean a fuel pump, though he advises buying a new one.

While some of the first half was inches from hedgerows, the second half gave us some spectacular views of the surrounding countryside (though of course behind the compulsory Sunday driver!).

The start of the run had already given us a taste of what was to come, albeit not quite as tense! We saw plenty of other runners in the next hour or so, and it was good to see that it wasn't only us who could miss a turning!

I'd wanted to do the Kimber Run since we'd got hold of the B. We'd seen it a couple of years' back when we'd been visiting Chatsworth, and it being one of our favourite locations anyway it seemed an ideal place to do our first run.

Time for another run across the Pennines. My usual run is along the A66, which is a much nicer route now its been made a dual-carriageway. However this weekend it was the Appleby Fair which meant I'd need an alternate route, one which just happened to include the Buttertubs Pass.

Well, the B's been running a good while now, but it's never had anything like a tune-up, so we took a bit of time today to check a few settings.

I'm hoping to get a bit more video up on the site, so we'll start off with a bit of in-car footage from our latest run around the Yorkshire Dales. The sound isn't too great and you can't hear much of the engine, partly due to a bit of wind noise from a couple of gaps in the window rubber, so I'll do a bit of patching and try again.

I realised that I'd not posted any video of the car moving for a while, so as I had some new tyres and it was a nice day, we took a quick run out to our nearest B-road. The new tyres and adjustments definitely give the B lighter steering and a much smoother ride.

The MG's been off the road for a couple of weeks after breaking down on an afternoon run around the block.Right now we're trying to work out what's wrong.
January 18, 2009

The MG is moving under its own steam for the first time in around 17 years! Turns out the clutch wasn't as stuck as we had feared, which was a major relief. The new cylinders and lines, along with the torque of the engine, seem to have helped it break loose.
July 6, 2008

This is the first time we'd managed to get the MG fired up, so it was smiles all round. The accelerator cable hadn't been replaced at this point, so we're had to hook up a temporary wire to do the job.
A while back I inherited a 1979 MGB GT. It had been sat in a garage for nearly two decades and was in desperate need of a bit of attention. Knowing absolutely nothing about cars and even less about engines I, of course, decided to get it back on the road.
